Hardy boys celebrate Famous American Day at school

James and Trip dressed the part for the Famous American Day celebration at RES. Trip is, of course, Abraham Lincoln. He practiced his Gettysburg Address - "Four thousand years ago..." James was a very dapper Ronald Reagan. We didn't have the heart to put shoe polish on his hair, but instead handed him a bag of jelly beans. How cute are they?!!!

Mr. Hardy Goes to Washington

Bert got to go to Capitol Hill on Friday, February 13th (yes Friday the 13th) and meet with his congressman Eric Cantor who also happens to be the Minority Whip. As you can imagine, Bert was very anxious to get his opinions expressed. They talked about trying to save S&K, the economy, the stimulus plan and the disfunctional banking system. The congressman was very amiable and cordial. He agreed with Bert on just about every issue. Unfortunately, he is the MINORITY Whip so he does not have a lot of opportunity to advance that agenda. We were the last people to meet with him before he went on the floor to vote for the porkulus package. He rallied his party to 100% opposition. Unfortunately it passed any way.

Bert says "I walked past the floor of the house and was able to see the congress in session debating the stimulus plan. I also walked past the Senate Majority Leader's office and the Speaker of the House's office. I felt like I needed to take a shower after that!" What an experience!
